What is the G1 Test?
The Ontario G1 test is a written knowledge exam required for all new drivers. Passing it gives you a G1 license, which is the first stage of Ontario’s graduated licensing system.
Structure of the Test
- 40 multiple-choice questions.
- Divided into two sections: rules of the road and traffic signs.
- You must score at least 80% in each section to pass.
- Time limit: No strict limit, but usually 30 minutes is enough.
Things to Know
The test is based on the Official MTO Driver’s Handbook. It’s available in multiple languages and taken on a computer at DriveTest centres.
